The Important Things

One of the things people ask us about is what are the important things.  What do you believe?  Why should I come to your church?  What do you do at church?  Do I have to dress a certain way?

The Bible

We want to keep this simple; we believe the Bible is God’s Word to us.  It is an amazing book written by 40 authors over a span of about 1500 years.  It is amazing that even many of the authors of the Bible never knew each other they wrote with amazing unity and clarity of historic and spiritual things.  The Bible not only shares with us how the world was created but also the story of God’s faithfulness and His compassion for people. The Bible tells of the life and ministry of Jesus who is our Savior.  He gives us hope in a world filled with despair.  The Bible is unique because it is the living Word of God.  There are many more things that we can learn from its pages but you need to come and see for yourself!

God

Once you begin to explore the Bible you begin to learn about God.  Many people don’t realize that God is actually a trinity.  That means that He is three in one.  He is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

God the Father is an Awesome God!  He is Holy and Righteous and Just.  He is the creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them.  He is all powerful and all knowing.  He is everywhere at once; and He has unlimited power.  There is so much more to know and learn, you really should come and find out for yourself.

God the Son Is Jesus!

Many people know of Jesus, He died on the cross for us all.  He is our Savior and our Lord.  He is the one that John 3:16 talks about, you may have heard this from the Bible it says: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  Our goal is to introduce Jesus to people so that they get to know Him personally not just know about Him.  There is so much more to tell but you really need to hear it in person.

God the Holy Spirit

This may surprise some people, but the Holy Spirit actually comes to live inside of those who trust Jesus to be their Savior.  The Holy Spirit gives us understanding about the Bible and He guides us.  He also convicts people of sin and shows us our need for a Savior.  One more thing about the Holy Spirit, He gives us power to live a life that reflects the Glory of God.  It’s difficult to explain but you know the drill, you should really come and find out more.

So now what if you have never been to church before or are looking for a church or even if you aren’t sure about church, come and see!  You are welcome here.  We want to get to know you!

There is no dress code here at our church.  Wear what you have.  Don’t worry if it is your first time, we love meeting new people.  You will see ordinary people who are getting to know an extraordinary God.  We are on a journey together as we are learning to live and do life according to God’s perfect design.  It is pretty amazing, challenging, eye opening, and it’s different every time we meet!  You know what’s next…Come and see for yourself.

In a typical service we will sing and worship God, we will pray, we will have a time of teaching from the Bible, and we will have time to fellowship with each other.  You never know it may be just what you are looking for or maybe just what you need.

It is impossible to write out all that we believe and to describe all that church life at First Southern Baptist Church of Ripley encompasses.  We just want you to know that you are welcome here. We are simply followers of Jesus hoping to bring some others along.

If you don’t know if you are coming or going, come follow Jesus

If you aren’t sure anymore what is right or wrong, come and learn about God’s plan.

If you don’t really like religion, come and find out about a relationship.

If you have been hurt by another church, come and begin to heal.

If you are hopeless and at the end of your rope, come and let go, Jesus will catch you.

If you are looking for a place to serve and honor the Lord, come and pray.
